The University of Kentucky's ASTeCC (the Advanced Science and Technology Commercialization Center) is home to LevTech, Inc. The start-up is developing novel mixing and pumping systems based on contact-less levitation bearings. The company's work is being applied currently to the design and development of prototype levitation systems for sterile biopharmaceutical fluids. The technology is based on the research of Alexandre Terentiev. His prototype uses superconducting magnetic levitation to suspend and rotate an impeller in a closed vessel without mechanical connection. Stites & Harbison's Mandy Wilson Decker is one of the firm's principal contacts with ASTeCC. |
